Marketing When You’re a Team of One (Realistic Tips That Don’t Overwhelm)

Let’s set the scene: You’re the founder, creative director, customer service rep, accountant, and marketing team all wrapped up in one (very, very busy) human.

You know marketing matters. You want to show up consistently. But between juggling clients, admin tasks, and trying to remember what groceries you need, it’s easy for marketing to fall to the bottom of your list (or spiral into “all or nothing” mode).

If this sounds familiar, take a deep breath. You’re not alone. And you don’t need to do it all to build momentum.

Here are a few realistic, non-overwhelming tips for marketing when you’re a team of one.

1. Anchor Into a Few Core Content Pillars

Instead of reinventing the wheel every time you post, define 3-4 themes you return to regularly. Think:

→ Behind the scenes

→ Client stories or results

→ Your process or offers

→ Thoughtful insights or values

These pillars help you stay focused, reduce decision fatigue, and keep your messaging consistent without sounding repetitive.

Pro tip: If you don’t know where to start, go back to what people ask you about most. That’s usually where your content gold lives.

2. Pick Your Platforms with Intention

You don’t need to be everywhere. yYou just need to be somewhere consistently.

Choose 1-2 channels you enjoy using and that your audience actually checks (Instagram? Email? LinkedIn?). Focus your energy there, and let the rest go until you’re ready to expand.

Ask yourself: What kind of content do I like creating, and where does my audience naturally hang out?

3. Batch + Repurpose When You Can

Content creation takes time. The easiest way to make it work with your schedule? Batch when you have energy, and repurpose across platforms.

That blog post? Turn it into 3 Instagram captions. That Instagram Story? Expand it into a newsletter intro. Work smarter, not harder.

Pro tip: Keep a simple running doc or folder of past content you can reuse or refresh on low-energy weeks.

4. Use Templates, Prompts & Tools That Lighten the Load

Not everything needs to be created from scratch. Use Canva templates, caption prompts, content calendars - anything that helps reduce friction and decision-making.

At High Frequencies Collective, I even build out plug-and-play marketing plans for founders who want to show up without having to overthink every post.

Marketing can be strategic and simple. You’re allowed to make it easier.

5. Focus on Connection, Not Just Visibility

If the algorithm feels like a mystery and engagement is inconsistent, come back to what really matters: connection.

One thoughtful post that speaks directly to your audience > five random ones you threw together under pressure.

Ask yourself: How can I make one person feel seen today?

6. Give Yourself Permission to Grow at Your Pace

There will be weeks where marketing flows, and there will be weeks where it doesn’t. That’s okay. You’re building something meaningful, and that takes time.

Marketing as a team of one isn’t about constant output. It’s about clarity, consistency, and building a presence that reflects you in a way that’s sustainable.
